Dealing with People who Put You Down

People who put others down have:

*Low self-esteem issues

*They were neglected as a child or teenager

*Putting others down helps them feel better about themselves

*They are jealous of your success and they feel shameful

*They want to bring you down to their level

*Putting others down makes them feel important about themselves

*They are trying to control you for their benefit

*They are filled with negative emotions and dumping it onto you

*It's their stuff, not yours

*They lack emotional intelligence

WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT?

*Understand that they have a problem with themselves and can't solve it

*Put your shield up - let their comments bounce off you

*Ignore them

*Laugh at them

*Disengage and leave them

*Don't argue with them

*Don't engage with them anymore

*Create mental, emotional, and physical distance from them so their comments don't hurt you anymore

*Limit contact

*Cut contact completely
